WheelMates releases on September 1, 2026, for PC, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions planned for a later date. Developed and published by Firevolt, this two-player cooperative adventure puts each player behind the controls of a tiny RC car after an eccentric professor mysteriously disappears. His oversized home laboratory becomes a playground of desks, shelves, machinery, hidden rooms, and strange experiments, with both cars using abilities such as magnetic wheels, magnet grabs, and rope swings to solve puzzles, cross obstacles, discover alternate routes, and piece together what happened to their missing owner.

WheelMates understands that controlling a tiny vehicle inside an ordinary house is entertaining before any complicated mechanic is introduced. Desks become race tracks, furniture creates vertical platforming routes, and small gaps suddenly require the sort of planning normally reserved for much larger obstacles.

The important part is that both cars are necessary. Progress depends on communication and coordinated actions rather than simply placing a second player in the same level. One car may need to activate a mechanism while the other crosses it, or both players may need to approach an obstacle from different directions.

Vehicle upgrades gradually expand those possibilities. Magnetic wheels allow the cars to cling to unusual surfaces, while grabs and rope-based movement open routes that initially appear inaccessible. Earlier rooms can therefore gain new paths as the adventure develops.

Driving also seems deliberately playful. Drifting across cluttered surfaces and racing through larger spaces gives quieter puzzle sections a faster alternative without turning the game into a conventional racing title. Online co-op and shared-screen play make that structure accessible to both remote and local pairs.

The obvious limitation is that WheelMates is built specifically around two players. Its quality will depend heavily on puzzle variety and whether later rooms introduce genuinely new cooperative ideas instead of repeating familiar switch-and-platform setups.

Verdict: A charming two-player adventure that turns RC driving, household scale, and genuinely cooperative puzzles into one tightly connected experience.
