Silent Hill: Townfall
Silent Hill: Townfall releases September 24, 2026 on PC and PlayStation 5. Developed by Screen Burn Interactive and published by KONAMI and Annapurna Interactive, it is a self-contained first-person survival horror set in St. Amelia, a cold Scottish island town in 1996. You play as Simon Ordell, called back to put something right, then forced to explore, evade, and survive while a pocket CRTV device pulls unstable signals out of the fog and turns the town into something harder to trust.

Review

Silent Hill: Townfall has the right instinct for this series: it starts with a place that feels wrong before it explains why. St. Amelia sounds cold, isolated, and half-abandoned, which is exactly the sort of setting that can make a first-person horror game feel intimate without becoming small. The town is not just scenery. It needs to feel like a memory with bad intentions.
The CRTV device is the strongest mechanical hook. Horror tools work when they make players more anxious, not safer. If the pocket television helps reveal enemies, signals, and pieces of truth while also forcing you to look at the world differently, it can become more than a scanner. It can be a source of dread, the thing you need and hate using.
The first-person shift also makes sense. Silent Hill is often about vulnerability, and close perspective gives every hallway and locked door more weight. Evasion, limited weapons, and narrative puzzles should keep the focus on survival instead of turning Simon into a power fantasy. The best version of Townfall is not one where you clear rooms. It is one where you decide whether entering a room is worth it.
There are risks. First-person horror can become repetitive if every threat is handled the same way, and psychological storytelling can collapse if it leans too hard on vague symbolism. The writing has to stay specific, grounded in Simon and St. Amelia, or the fog becomes decoration.
Verdict: A strong standalone Silent Hill setup with a smart device hook, likely to work if its town, puzzles, and survival pressure stay precise instead of abstract.
