Review
Welcome to Elderfield works because its farming and horror elements are not separated into different modes. A normal day can involve tending crops, gathering materials, talking to neighbors, or fishing, yet the world constantly reminds the player that something outside the farm is deeply wrong.
Farming follows the familiar life-sim rhythm but embraces the setting’s stranger ideas. Conventional crops sit beside unsettling resources, unusual livestock, and threats that can physically intrude on the property. Mining, gathering, cooking, and crafting provide supplies for both daily life and the dangerous parts of the game.
Combat is turn-based and built around preparation. Weapons, collected resources, buffs, and equipment matter when confronting Lovecraftian creatures, while difficulty options let players decide how much pressure they want. Those primarily interested in farming can keep things relatively relaxed, while harder settings make survival and resource management much more important.
Relationships and town mysteries provide the longer narrative thread. Residents can be befriended or romanced, but increasingly abnormal events make even ordinary conversations feel slightly suspicious.
The combination is unusual, though the number of systems creates a risk that farming, combat, and social progression may not all receive equal depth. Its intentionally unsettling art style may also be divisive for players expecting a traditionally cute farming game.
Verdict: A distinctive life sim that makes farming, relationships, and turn-based combat feel naturally at home inside a genuinely strange horror setting.
