Doom Eternal launched on March 20, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Stadia, later arriving on Nintendo Switch and gaining native PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. It was developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. The Slayer returns to carve through Earth’s invasion and beyond. Eternal ties health, armor, and ammo to specific tools, so the chainsaw, glory kills, and flame belch are more than flair. Movement is king: dash, double jump, bars, and the meat hook turn arenas into fast problem‑solving spaces.
Deluxe Edition — what’s included
- Year One Pass with The Ancient Gods: Part One and Part Two

Review

Eternal shines when you stop thinking like a traditional shooter and start rotating tools on instinct. Weak points, hazards, and enemy synergies make every fight a puzzle you solve at speed. The super shotgun’s meat hook is the star, both traversal and crowd control. Platforming breaks can feel fussy, yet they keep momentum and set up good sightlines for the next brawl. On PC, performance is excellent on capable hardware and the interface stays readable even in chaos.
Two caveats. The opening hours can punish newcomers until the loop clicks, and the lore dump cadence won’t land for everyone. Once the habits stick, Eternal flows, and The Ancient Gods serves a spicy endgame.
Verdict: blistering combat sandbox, still the FPS to beat.
