Review

NieR:Automata works because it keeps changing the frame around its combat. Platinum’s inputs are crisp, pods add ranged control, and chip builds let you skew toward damage, sustain, or utility. The camera shifts through top‑down shooter and side‑scroll segments without feeling like a gimmick. Routes B and C recontextualize your first run and land some of the most effective late‑game beats of the past decade.
Quirks remain. The original PC port needed community fixes and the official patch cleaned most of it up, but ultrawide and frame limit tweaks still live outside the launcher. Combat can be breezy if you overlevel. Even then, the tone, soundtrack, and structure make it a standout.
Verdict: singular action RPG, still worth playing today.
