Review

ACE COMBAT 8 keeps the series’ accessible flight model, where sharp turns, missile locks, special weapons, and dramatic escapes matter more than strict simulation. Aircraft still feel distinct, but the controls remain responsive enough to make complicated maneuvers possible without extensive preparation.
Dynamic cloud layers now play a larger tactical role. Entering dense cover can break visibility and complicate targeting, while contrails and shifting light may expose another pilot’s position. The system gives the sky more influence over combat instead of treating clouds as decorative scenery.
The campaign combines large air battles with first-person story sequences that keep the player inside the pilot’s perspective. Conversations between sorties, command decisions, and squad relationships aim to give missions more emotional weight than conventional briefing screens.
ACE COMBAT ONLINE is the largest multiplayer component in the series. Players can explore an airbase with custom avatars before entering cooperative or competitive missions. Cross-platform support should help matchmaking, especially once the initial launch population settles.
The main concern is how strongly online systems and anti-cheat requirements affect the PC experience. The 125 GB installation, mandatory SSD, hardware ray tracing requirement, and 32 GB recommended memory are also unusually demanding.
Verdict: A technically ambitious Ace Combat sequel with stronger clouds, broader multiplayer, and the same fast arcade dogfighting at its core.
