PAYDAY 2 released on August 13, 2013 for PC (Steam), later arriving on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. Developed by OVERKILL Software and published on PC by Starbreeze Publishing AB. A co‑op heist shooter where four players case, breach, and escape with whatever they can carry. Jobs range from quiet bank drills to loud street wars. Loadouts lean into roles, from ammo mule to ECM ghost, and the best runs are the ones where comms stay calm while everything catches fire.

Review

PAYDAY 2 lives in the small decisions. Do you mask up early or tail a guard another thirty seconds. Do you burn a keycard here, or risk a pager and save it for the vault wing. The gunplay is simple on paper, yet the push and pull is in the planning. Skills and perk decks push you toward a job on the crew, but the best nights come from teams that flex when a route breaks. A clean stealth is satisfying, sure. A loud salvage with bags flying over fences is the memory you keep.
Maps still carry weight. Old staples like Bank Heist read fast, while later releases stack more moving parts without becoming puzzles for their own sake. Moddable weapons give room to tune recoil and breakpoints, and throwables plus deployables add little tempo swings when a choke needs to hold. The economy takes some learning, but infamy loops and side jobs move the grind along.
Caveats: public lobbies are a coin flip, balance swings after patches, and anti‑cheat sweeps come in waves. Storage footprint is heavy on PC, and shader caches warm up on first boot. Even with the bumps, the heist rhythm still hooks. Plan, improvise, haul, and pray the van is close.
Verdict: scrappy, readable co‑op heists that turn panic into good stories.
