Esoteric Ebb releases March 3, 2026 on PC. Developed by Christoffer Bodegård and published by Raw Fury, it’s a single-player CRPG that leans into tabletop tension: you travel with a goblin companion, push through uneasy situations with dice rolls, and steer a campaign that can swing from civic hero work to messy compromise depending on how you play it. The pitch is conspiracy in an arcanepunk fantasy city, but the real hook is agency that actually bites back.

Review

Esoteric Ebb feels like a game made by someone who enjoys watching a plan go wrong in a believable way. Not random chaos. More like, you picked a line, you rolled, and now you have to talk your way out of the corner you created. That’s the loop, and it’s surprisingly addictive.
The city carries most of the charm. It’s political, a little grubby, and full of people who think they’re smarter than you. The writing lets conversations breathe, and it doesn’t always reward the “optimal” choice. Sometimes the best option is the one that keeps the room calm. Sometimes it’s the one that burns a bridge on purpose.
The dice checks do good work here. They keep uncertainty alive without turning the game into a slot machine, and they stop you from treating every dialogue tree like a puzzle with a single correct answer. Your goblin companion also matters more than flavor. They change how scenes land, and you feel that difference in how the city reads you.
Combat exists, but it’s not the headline. Think of it as another pressure point rather than the main event. The bigger caveat is pacing. If you play in short bursts, long dialogue stretches can feel heavy. Give it a proper session and the momentum shows up.
Verdict: A writing-first CRPG that takes choice seriously, and stays interesting because it’s willing to let you deal with your own mess.
