Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core
Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core launches in Early Access on May 20, 2026 on PC. Developed by Ghost Ship Games and published by Ghost Ship Publishing and Coffee Stain Publishing, it’s a 1–4 player co-op FPS roguelite where dwarven Reclaimers push into infested mining facilities, fight off Core Spawn, and try to bring something valuable back before the caves decide they’re done with you. It keeps the series’ co-op DNA but adds a run-based structure built for constant escalation and fresh layouts.

Review

Rogue Core has a clean advantage: Deep Rock already knows how to make co-op feel like a team sport instead of four people sharing a map. The roguelite angle is the interesting change. Runs force urgency. You’re not just mining until you get bored. You’re pushing deeper, taking risks, and deciding when to cash out because the next room could be the one that breaks you.
The best version of Rogue Core is one where run structure doesn’t flatten the personality out of Deep Rock’s caves. Procedural layouts are already part of the franchise, but a roguelite needs meaningful variation in the threats and the rewards, modifiers that change how you play, upgrades that nudge you into different approaches, and enough curveballs that your squad can’t autopilot.
It should also be a great fit for squads with different skill levels. A good roguelite co-op game creates “we survived that” stories constantly: clutch revives, last-second escapes, dumb plans that somehow work. The caveat is balance. If upgrades snowball too hard, runs become easy and forgettable. If the game is too punishing, players stop experimenting and start playing scared.
Early Access is the other asterisk. This genre needs a lot of content and careful tuning. The good news is Ghost Ship has a strong track record for iterating with community feedback.
Verdict: A smart roguelite spin for Deep Rock’s co-op formula, with Early Access success hinging on run variety, fair scaling, and upgrades that encourage experimentation instead of safe play.
