Anno 117: Pax Romana
Anno 117: Pax Romana releases on November 13, 2025 for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Developed by Ubisoft Mainz and published by Ubisoft. You govern provinces at the height of Rome, starting in Latium or Albion, then push trade, faith, and force where you need them. New toys stand out: diagonal building, province‑level choices, deities that grant bonuses, a flexible discovery tree, and both land and naval battles that sit alongside diplomacy.

Review

Anno 117: Pax Romana leans into scale without losing the series’ rhythm. Early hours are all roads and warehouses, shoring up supply lines so citizens stop grumbling. Then it opens up. Provinces ask for real decisions: honor local Celtic culture or press Roman norms, pick a deity for each island, accept favors with strings attached. It feels like city building with a political spine.
Construction clicks. Diagonal placement trims dead space, production radii are clearer, and traffic finally matters. Albion’s wetlands and Latium’s heartland play differently, so routes you trust in one map fall apart in the other. When war shows up, it acts as pressure rather than the whole meal, giving you room to trade or posture instead of rushing to swords.
There are caveats. The interface throws a lot at you, and the demo’s late tiers were noisy with alerts. Performance will test CPUs, and the 117 GB install plus AVX2 and SSD requirements hint at how heavy simulations can get. Pathfinding during crowded festivals and battle chokepoints could still use polish. None of it kills the loop. Watching a messy village harden into a Roman hub is still the hook.
Verdict: big, fussy, and absorbing, the most confident Anno has felt since 1800.
