Review

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse places the whip at the center of both combat and movement. Rose can strike enemies from a distance, swing through parts of the environment, cross gaps, and reposition herself with a level of agility that makes traversal part of the fighting system rather than a separate activity.
The Arcana system gives boss encounters a lasting effect on progression. Defeating figures such as Death, Medusa, Carmilla, and Joan of Arc seals their powers inside tarot cards. These cards provide spells and special actions, gradually expanding Rose’s options as she pushes deeper into the castle.
Equipment offers another layer of customization. Seven weapon categories and a range of Relics can be combined to support direct offense, defensive effects, mobility, or specialized reactions. This should allow players to shape Rose around preferred tactics without abandoning the signature Vampire Killer.
The setting moves the series into burning medieval Paris before opening into more familiar gothic halls, towers, underground passages, and supernatural spaces. Refined character animation and vivid effects modernize the presentation while preserving the heavy shadows and elaborate architecture associated with Castlevania.
The Midnight Edition’s extras are mostly cosmetic and archival, so players interested only in gameplay may find the Standard Edition sufficient. The listed 16 GB memory requirement also feels unusually high for a side-scrolling action game.
Verdict: A confident return to exploration-based Castlevania, driven by expressive whip movement, flexible equipment, and boss powers that meaningfully expand Rose’s abilities.
