Co-developed by Virtuos and Bethesda Game Studios, and published by Bethesda Softworks, it brings the 2006 classic back with rebuilt visuals, smoother performance, and a few modern touches. You return to Cyrodiil just after Emperor Uriel Septim’s assassination. Daedric gates rip open across the countryside. From a prison cell to the edge of the empire, you choose the path: guilds, ruins, or the main quest pulling you into the crisis.

Review

Playing Oblivion Remastered is like running into an old friend—familiar, but a little fresher around the edges. The Imperial City feels livelier, forests thicker, dungeons moodier. Sure, you’ll still spot some dated textures, but the updated lighting and detail make exploring fun again. Combat has a bit more snap, with blocking and strikes tuned up, though the stiffness that marked the original hasn’t disappeared. Oddly, that’s part of the charm.

The guilds remain standouts. The Dark Brotherhood questline still chills, while the Mages and Fighters Guilds keep their own twists intact. Dialogue flows a little smoother, yet animations can still look clunky. It’s rough in places, but the freedom to shape your character—killer, knight, or wanderer—hasn’t lost its punch.

On PC, most runs are stable, though crowded spots like the Market District can test mid-range rigs. NPCs occasionally act out in weird ways, either during a fight or a chat, but that’s Oblivion. The rough patches don’t kill the magic. Few RPGs still give this much room to carve your own path, and this remaster makes it easier to step back into that world.

Verdict: Not perfect, but still one of the RPG greats. The remaster keeps Oblivion’s heart alive while making the trip back into Cyrodiil smoother than before.
