Voidling Bound releases June 9, 2026 on PC, with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 planned for later. Developed and published by Hatchery Games, it’s a sci-fi creature-taming action RPG where you fight in third-person while directly controlling your voidlings, swapping between them to adapt to enemies and terrain. The hook is the mix of collection and skill play: you’re not only building a roster, you’re learning how each creature moves, attacks, and survives when a fight turns ugly.

Review

Voidling Bound has a strong angle because it doesn’t treat creature collecting as a passive spreadsheet game. The pitch is hands-on control. You’re meant to fight as your voidlings, learn their kits, and treat your roster like a toolbox rather than a trophy shelf. That approach can make collecting feel more meaningful, because every new creature is a new playstyle, not just a new entry.
The sci-fi setting also helps it stand out in a genre that’s still heavily fantasy-coded. If the world design supports exploration, camps, and encounters that naturally encourage switching creatures, the loop can feel active rather than grindy. The key is encounter variety. A monster-tamer lives on giving you problems that don’t all have the same solution, threats that force movement, resistances that matter, bosses that punish autopilot.
The other pillar is progression. Roster growth is fun when you feel like you’re earning new options at a steady pace. It’s less fun when you’re repeating the same activity for incremental power. A good launch version should give players a wide enough roster and enough meaningful upgrades that experimentation is rewarded.
Two caveats. First, camera and readability are everything in third-person action games. If fights get visually noisy, players will blame the game, not themselves. Second, on the collection side, balance matters. If one voidling solves most fights, the “taming” angle loses purpose.
Verdict: A promising hands-on monster-taming action RPG, with its long-term appeal depending on roster variety, readable combat, and progression that rewards experimentation instead of repetition.
