Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree
Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree released on September 18, 2025 for PC (Steam), and on September 19, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Developed by Brownies inc. and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. You play as Towa, a priestess defending Shinju Village from Magatsu’s corruption. Each run mixes exploration, tight arena fights, and a smithing loop where you forge blades, bond with companions, and return to town stronger. Combat runs on duo roles, with a front fighter using the sacred sword and a support channeling magic, so team choice matters as much as gear.

Review
Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree finds a sweet spot between action and ritual. The core loop is simple: push into colorful wilds, clear rooms, grab materials, then fall back to Shinju to craft and train. It clicks because upgrades feel tangible. New blades change rhythm, support skills reframe your approach, and partner swaps shake up routes. The duo system keeps fights readable. You dash with the striker, then pop support skills to control space or heal, and those small synergies carry the run.
It looks sharp without chasing realism. Strong color, clean silhouettes, and a soundtrack that lifts boss moments. Couch co‑op and online co‑op help the game sing, especially when roles complement each other. The town hub does real work too, stretching runs with side chats, dojo unlocks, and sword‑forging minigames that add risk and reward.
There are rough edges. Dialogue can repeat, pacing stalls if you bounce to town too often, and early gear variety is light until the forge opens up. Some rooms get busy enough that smaller telegraphs are easy to miss. Still, once your build starts to gel, the push and pull of risk, retreat, and return feels right.
Verdict: lively roguelite action with a satisfying forge loop, a little talky but easy to recommend.
