Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag launched on November 22, 2013 for PC (Steam). It was developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. You play Edward Kenway, a pirate who stumbles into the Assassin‑Templar war while carving a name across the Caribbean. The pitch is open‑sea freedom, ship upgrades, and seamless boarding blended with classic parkour and stealth on islands and cities.

Review

Black Flag nails the fantasy. The Jackdaw is more than a vehicle, it is progression, identity and combat platform. Broadside timing, swivels and chain shot make engagements readable, and boarding injects controlled chaos that pays out in upgrades. On land, the series’ stealth holds up best when you weave contracts, shanties and treasure routes into a single loop. Havana, Nassau and Kingston are compact parks of guards, greenery and rooftops that still invite creative routes.

Side content can sprawl, yet much of it feeds ship improvement or a quick burst of gold, which keeps the loop tight. Story beats are lighter than Ezio’s arc but the period flavor, with Blackbeard and company, sells the vibe. Caveats: tailing missions remain the series’ weakest link, and some UI systems show age on PC. Even so, performance is stable on modern machines and the package remains one of the best naval sandboxes in action games.

Verdict: timeless pirate sandbox where naval combat and exploration carry the series.
