Mina the Hollower
Mina the Hollower releases on October 31, 2025 (postponed) for PC (Steam), with console versions also announced. Developed and published by Yacht Club Games. You step in as Mina, a whip‑smart Hollower sent to rescue a cursed island. The loop is classic and sharp: read enemy patterns, tag weak spots, and use the burrow to slip under hazards or set up hits. Sidearms and trinkets twist builds just enough to keep fights fresh, while the world hides secret rooms and short detours that pay off if you watch the walls.

Review

Mina the Hollower wears retro looks without feeling stuck. Combat pushes quick choices over button mashing. Whip for space, a sidearm for stubborn enemies, then a short burrow to dodge and counter. Rooms are puzzles as much as arenas. You clock a destructible tile, notice a ledge, and suddenly a hidden route appears. Momentum builds because the game gives you little wins: a shortcut that trims backtracking, a relic that smooths a boss you feared.
The tone lands. Chip‑tune tracks hit upbeat and eerie in the right places, and the GBC‑style palette keeps reads clean. Story beats stay light until they don’t, and the cast sells a cursed island without heavy exposition. Exploration is where it clicks. You learn to tap walls out of habit, test suspicious floors, then smile when a new trinket changes your approach to a familiar area.
Caveats are modest. If you ignore secrets, the path can feel straight, and the burrow timing takes a bit to click. The demo showed minor shader stutters on first launch, nothing lasting. Overall, it plays confident and tidy, the kind of throwback that earns the nostalgia instead of leaning on it.
Verdict: tight, readable action‑adventure with tricks hiding in every corner.
