Luctus released on September 29, 2025 for PC (Steam). Developed by Mriya Game Studio and published by Blackburne Games Studio FZ LLC and IndieNext. You play as Nora, a fire mage on a side‑scrolling road through myth, grief, and big monsters that do not care how ready you feel. Spells upgrade fast, elemental combos burn hotter with each pickup, and the map stitches boss arenas to calmer stretches that hide shortcuts and small stories. It is brisk, readable, then mean when you get greedy.

Review

Luctus keeps the focus tight. Moves come out quick, rolls have clear iframes, and basic strings get teeth once you layer runes and new spell shapes. Early fights teach spacing, later bosses push pattern reads without cheap tells. The best runs feel like a duet, you and Nora trading pace between safe pokes and one big commit that either lands clean or gets you swatted. Fire builds carry, but the fun is in weaving burn stacks with crowd tools so trash melts while you watch the boss.
Exploration is light, just enough to break up arenas. Short detours feed upgrades, and side rooms hide optional duels that pay out well. Checkpoints are fair. Presentation sells the mood, warm highlights against deep blues, with a score that hums until it cuts loose. Story beats land in quick notes rather than lore dumps, which keeps the rhythm up.
Caveats: some enemy chains can stunlock if you blow a dodge, and a couple of mid‑game arenas repeat the same hazard layout. Pad aim on certain projectiles is touchy until you tweak settings. Steam’s demo suggests modest hardware runs fine, but heavy effects can shave frames on older GPUs. Even with the bumps, the loop works: learn a pattern, push your luck, cash the win.
Verdict: sharp side‑scrolling action that plays clean and hits hard when it counts.
