Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis releases February 12, 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Developed by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog and published by Amazon Game Studios, it reimagines Lara Croft’s debut adventure as a modern action-adventure built around ancient puzzles, deadly traversal, and myth-heavy exploration. The familiar hunt for the Scion returns, but the remake expands the story, gives Lara new movement tools like the grappling hook, and rebuilds locations from Peru to Greece, Egypt, and a mysterious island tied to Atlantis.

Review

Legacy of Atlantis has a difficult balance to strike. The original Tomb Raider is important because of its mood: quiet ruins, dangerous jumps, strange animals, and that lonely feeling of being deep inside somewhere nobody should be. A modern remake can sharpen the controls and expand the puzzles, but it has to keep that sense of isolation intact or the whole thing becomes just another glossy action game.
The strongest sign is the focus on traversal and puzzle design. Lara works best when movement feels like problem-solving. A ledge is not just a ledge; it is a commitment. A chamber is not just a room; it is a machine waiting to be understood. If the new grappling hook and modern climbing systems create more ways to read spaces without making everything too obvious, the remake could feel respectful without being trapped by the 1996 blueprint.
Combat is the area to watch. Tomb Raider can handle big threats, dinosaurs included, but it should not become a constant firefight. The best rhythm is exploration first, danger second, with violence used to break tension rather than replace it.
There is also a risk in over-explaining the mythology. Expanding the story is fine, but mystery matters. Lara should still feel like she is uncovering something larger than herself, not being escorted through a lore tour.
Verdict: A promising reimagining that could work beautifully if it preserves the lonely danger of classic Tomb Raider while modernizing movement and puzzles with restraint.
