Review

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds goes for speed and surprise. Handling is crisp, drifting stacks momentum fast, and items pop off quick enough to swing a lap. Travel Rings change the board mid‑race, tossing you into a new CrossWorld with different grip and lines, so the second lap rarely plays like the first. That gimmick could have been a toy, yet it mostly helps with flow. You make real choices, not just hope for lucky items.
Gadgets and vehicles push the tinkering angle. Swapping chassis and bolting on gadgets lets you chase straight‑line speed, tighter drift, or more item control. It takes a few races to feel the difference, but once you do, setups start to click. The roster is big, and split‑screen holds together, while 12‑player online keeps lobbies busy.
Caveats: item balance can spike frustration when back‑to‑back hits chain you, and rubberbanding shows in the final stretch on lower difficulties. The CrossWorld transitions sometimes clutter the camera, and in the Open Network Test some mid‑pack scrums stuttered on mid‑range PCs. Nothing fatal, just edges to sand.
Verdict: fast, loud karting that rewards tinkering, messy in spots but it sticks the landing.
