Pathogenic releases July 16, 2026 on PC. Developed by Aberrant Labs and published by Slug Disco, it is a cellular roguelike twin-stick shooter where you play as a parasite invading the human body. Every run is built around infection, adaptation, and improvised biology: you graft organelles onto your organism, chain effects through its body, evolve into stranger forms, and fight immune cells across procedurally generated organs.

Review

Pathogenic has a smart answer to the usual roguelike problem: instead of giving you a pile of abstract upgrades, it makes the build part of your body. Moving organelles around, linking effects through pathways, and changing how your parasite fires, moves, and survives gives progression a physical logic. You are not only getting stronger. You are becoming a different organism.
That makes the twin-stick action more interesting than it first appears. The basic loop is familiar: clear rooms, dodge threats, collect parts, push deeper. But the theme gives every decision a clearer shape. Flagella affect movement, secretors shape ranged attacks, spikes create melee pressure, and mitochondria support power. The best runs should feel like little experiments that somehow turn into functional nightmares.
The microscopic setting also gives the game a strong visual lane. Immune cells, rival parasites, organs, soft-body physics, and procedural biomes can make each run feel alive without needing a huge map. The caveat is balance. If a few organelle combinations clearly outperform everything else, experimentation narrows fast. The other risk is readability, because organic movement and bullet-hell pressure can get messy if effects stack too hard.
Verdict: A clever biological roguelike with a strong customization hook, most exciting when its organelle system turns buildcraft into visible, playable evolution.
