Review

Onimusha 2 still cuts because it trusts timing more than combos. Issen is the star. Bait an attack, tap at the edge, and watch a clean flash delete the threat. Levels move in tight loops, secrets fold back on themselves, and gentle puzzles reset your pace between duels. The remaster’s sharper image helps reads, and the control tweaks reduce the old stiffness without erasing the weight.
Side characters do real work. Routes and scenes shift depending on who you help, so a second run does not feel like busywork. The soundtrack leans into drama, a little big in places, but it keeps tension honest. Bosses are short stories: patterns first, patience second, then a payoff when a last‑second Issen lands.
Caveats: the camera can still betray you in corners, and some censorship chatter around the Steam release will bother purists. Denuvo is noted, which some players avoid. On PC, performance is friendly, though mouse play feels odd compared to pad. Even with rough edges, the remaster keeps the knife sharp.
Verdict: classic samurai action, cleaner visuals, same mean timing.
