Luminary enters Early Access on August 11, 2026, for PC. Developed and published by Refractive Entertainment, this open-zone action RPG casts players as light-bearing warriors tasked with reclaiming a fantasy world corrupted by immortal Ebonarchs. The launch version supports solo play and drop-in online co-op for up to three players, with persistent characters, six playable races, weapon swapping, town restoration, mining, fishing, exploration, enemy camps, towers, bosses, crafting, and traversal across the first half of its planned map.

Review

Luminary is designed as a more forgiving entry point into open-world action RPGs. Combat allows players to switch quickly between a sword and shield, bow, and magical glove, creating a flexible rhythm without locking characters into one permanent class. Blocking, dodging, ranged pressure, and basic spell use provide enough variety for early encounters while keeping the controls approachable.
Exploration is equally important. Players can climb mountains, swim through deeper areas, glide across gaps, search for hidden treasure, clear enemy camps, and liberate large towers. The Early Access map only includes roughly half of the planned two-square-kilometre region, but its vertical movement should make that space feel denser than its raw size suggests.
Progress carries between solo and co-op sessions. A character developed alone can enter another player’s world, collect equipment, gain experience, and return without losing progress. Friends are also free to separate, gather materials, fish, mine, or pursue combat independently instead of remaining tied to the host.
Town restoration adds a useful purpose to resource gathering. Rescuing residents and upgrading merchants such as the blacksmith, armorer, arcanist, and chef gradually improves the equipment and services available.
The main caveat is its unfinished scope. The launch build lacks the back half of the map and the planned final boss, while art, enemy variety, progression, and several systems remain in active development.
Verdict: An accessible co-op action RPG with flexible combat and enjoyable traversal, though its Early Access debut is clearly an incomplete foundation.
