God of War launched on 20 April 2018 for PlayStation 4 and later came to PC on 14 January 2022. Santa Monica Studio rebuilt the series here. Kratos isn’t raging through Olympus anymore. He’s older, living in the Norse wilds, raising his son Atreus while trying to keep his past buried. The Leviathan Axe sets the tone—weighty, brutal, satisfying to throw and recall. Combat pushes you to stay close, read enemies, and time every strike. On PC the port runs smoothly, adds ultrawide support, and brings sharper detail, making this the cleanest way to play.
Review

God of War mixes big action with quiet storytelling. You fight trolls and dragons, but also argue with Atreus by a campfire. The over-the-shoulder camera locks you in close. Every swing of the axe lands heavy. Combos are short and precise. Shields and parries matter. Later, runic attacks and upgrades give fights more variety without breaking the core weight of combat.
The world feels wide but controlled. Areas loop back with shortcuts, and new powers let you revisit places to uncover hidden rooms or solve puzzles. It isn’t an open world like Skyrim, but it still feels alive. Snow crunches, rivers shine, and characters talk naturally as you walk. That no-cut camera trick makes the whole game flow like one long take.
On PC, performance is solid if your rig can handle it. Max settings push GPUs hard, but DLSS or FSR helps smooth things out. Ultrawide monitors get proper support, which makes the landscapes even more striking. Minor quibbles remain: some fights get cramped by the tight camera, and puzzles can repeat themselves. Still, the pacing balances action and downtime well.
Verdict: A bold reinvention. Brutal in combat, heartfelt in story, and still one of the strongest action games on PC.
