God of War Ragnarök
God of War Ragnarök released on November 9, 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, it continues the saga of Kratos and Atreus as the Norse apocalypse draws near. The PC version arrived on September 19, 2024, finally opening the gates of the Nine Realms to a broader audience. The sequel builds on the 2018 game’s foundations with wider exploration across all Nine Realms, denser side content, and sharper combat variety. Shields now carry distinct playstyles, elemental attacks expand your options, and Atreus takes on a much larger role in both story and battle.

Review
God of War Ragnarök doesn’t waste time easing you in. The Leviathan Axe still slams with weight, the Blades of Chaos still roar with speed, and fights feel chaotic in a way that suits Kratos. Each shield type forces you to rethink timing, and Atreus finally steps up as more than a sidekick. Combat loops between frantic battles and slower stretches of puzzles or quiet walks, giving a rhythm that keeps you pulled in.
The Nine Realms show Santa Monica’s scale. Midgard feels harsher under endless snow, Muspelheim burns with intensity, and Vanaheim’s dense forests hide secrets at every turn. Side quests add heart, often digging deeper into minor characters than expected. These moments hit harder than simple filler, grounding the story’s mythic scope in smaller dramas.
There are stumbles. The closing hours drag with stretched-out encounters, and optional content sometimes slows the urgency of the main thread. On PC, performance holds well if you’ve got the hardware, but mid-range rigs can struggle when fights get crowded. Even so, what stands out is the mix of myth, violence, and personal struggle that defines this arc.
Verdict: raw and oversized, but still one of the boldest action adventures of the decade.
