Review

Echoes of Aincrad has one obvious advantage: the fantasy is instantly readable. You are not just watching the Sword Art Online premise from the outside. You are making a custom player, stepping into Aincrad, and trying to build enough rhythm with your weapons, stats, and partner to survive the climb. That is a smart angle, because the series has always been about the pressure of a game world that refuses to stay harmless.
The combat is the part that needs to carry the whole thing. Dodges, parries, partner tactics, and special skills give the game a decent action-RPG spine, and the best fights should feel like you are learning a dangerous pattern instead of simply waiting for cooldowns. Partner synergy is a good fit too. Choosing whether a companion plays aggressive or supportive can make repeated outings feel more personal, especially if bonds unlock abilities that actually change how you approach bosses.
Exploration is the other big promise. Aincrad needs to feel like a place worth pushing through, not a sequence of pretty zones with quest markers. Cities, fields, and dungeons have to build a sense of ascent, with new threats and route choices opening as your character grows.
The caveat is that anime action RPGs can flatten quickly if enemies lack bite or if progression becomes pure stat inflation. Echoes of Aincrad will need sharp encounter design and meaningful build differences to avoid becoming a licensed checklist.
Verdict: A strong Sword Art Online setup with good build and partner hooks, but its long-term appeal will depend on combat feel and whether Aincrad stays dangerous instead of decorative.
