Review

COD4 remains fast and legible. The campaign’s rhythm, from all‑ghillied‑up patience to corridor sprints, still hits. Gunfeel is crisp, recoil is readable, and targets die as quickly as you expect. Levels teach without tutorials, placing you into clear roles with simple objectives that escalate cleanly. Multiplayer laid down the blueprint, and even away from the original servers the design reads in every modern shooter: aggressive time‑to‑kill, concise maps, and rewarding streaks that snowball rounds.
Presentation is lean. Effects and audio sell impact rather than spectacle, which helps the game age better than you expect. Two caveats: the original netcode and server lists are relics and require community workarounds, and the campaign AI can show seams once you know the triggers. On PC, it scales to almost any hardware and loads fast.
Verdict: a landmark FPS whose clarity and pacing still carry it.
