Review

Echoes of Mystralia places spell construction at the center of its combat. Rather than collecting a fixed list of magic attacks, players combine runes and modifiers to determine how spells travel, what they strike, and which secondary effects they create. A simple projectile can gradually become a more specialized tool for crowd control, mobility, defense, or concentrated damage.
That flexibility suits the roguelite structure. Each journey presents different rewards and obstacles, encouraging players to build around the components currently available instead of repeating one perfected setup. Returning to the Azimuth Temple provides a quieter space to adjust skills, reconsider tactics, and prepare for another attempt.
Combat appears fast without abandoning planning. Enemy groups require positioning and careful spell selection, while larger Guardians test whether the current build can handle sustained pressure. Clear magical effects help communicate what each custom spell is doing even when several abilities overlap.
The world gives the repeated runs a narrative purpose. Mazarim is not simply escaping a dungeon but attempting to preserve memories threatened by the Rift. Lost souls, damaged cultures, ancient divinities, and the consequences of war provide context for the regions being revisited.
The system’s depth could make early spell creation difficult to understand, particularly when several modifiers interact. Roguelite repetition may also frustrate players who preferred the more direct adventure structure of the original Mages of Mystralia.
Verdict: A flexible action roguelite whose custom spell system gives experimentation real value across repeated journeys through Mystralia’s fading memories.
