Review

Planet of Lana II’s biggest strength is that it doesn’t try to “talk louder” than the first game. It’s still a quiet, cinematic adventure built on mood, pacing, and the bond between Lana and Mui. That restraint matters. A lot of sequels confuse scale for impact. Here, the pitch is more focused: new regions, smoother movement, and puzzles that feel like they belong to the world instead of sitting on top of it.
The traversal upgrades sound small on paper, but they’re the kind that change how a game breathes. Better agility means the platforming can be more fluid and less fussy, which lets the atmosphere do its job instead of being interrupted by constant stops. And the “no spoken dialogue” approach remains a good choice. It keeps the story universal and pushes emotion into animation, framing, and music.
Puzzle design is where the sequel needs to prove itself. The first game worked because it kept momentum while still making you think. If the new puzzles stay readable and varied, the 6–8 hour runtime (as listed) should land well. If they lean too hard into trial-and-error, the tone can sour quickly.
I’m also curious how much freedom the sequel allows in problem-solving. The best puzzle adventures let you feel clever, even when you’re following a curated path. Planet of Lana II already has the ingredients for that: a responsive movement set and a companion relationship that can drive mechanics, not just story beats.
Verdict: A sequel that seems to understand its own appeal, quiet, beautiful, and companion-driven, with success hinging on puzzle variety and momentum.
