Dead Weight
Dead Weight releases July 16, 2026 on PC. Developed by Klukva Games and published by Klukva Games and Spaghetti Cat, it is a roguelite steampunk RPG about sailing a flying pirate ship across floating islands, hiring a crew, and fighting Ancient Gods in compact turn-based battles. The game mixes ship upgrades, class choice, character skills, equipment builds, and risky island exploration, with every small battlefield asking you to think before moving because space is tight and one bad step can waste a run.

Review

Dead Weight has a clean roguelite hook: a flying pirate ship, a crew you need to keep improving, and a world where the Ancient Gods are not just background lore. The small-battlefield combat is the part that stands out first. Turn-based tactics often lose tension when arenas get too wide, but here the spaces sound deliberately tight, so positioning matters because there is not much room to waste. That can make even short fights feel deliberate.
The ship layer gives the loop a useful sense of direction. Fuel, crew, upgrades, and route choices all sound like parts of the same pressure system rather than separate menus. If the progression is tuned well, every island should feel like a bet: risk a harder stop for better loot, or preserve your build and move on. The four playable characters also help, because roguelites need different starting rhythms if they want repeated runs to stay fresh.
The caveat is readability. Tiny tactical maps are great when enemy intent is clear, but frustrating when hazards and movement rules are vague. The other concern is long-term variety. A roguelite can have a great opening and still fade if events, enemies, and upgrades start repeating too quickly. Dead Weight has the right pieces; it just needs enough friction and surprise to keep runs from becoming routine.
Verdict: A promising steampunk roguelite with a strong tactical hook, as long as its small battlefields stay readable and its run variety holds up after the first discoveries.
