Resident Evil Requiem (RE9) is set to launch on February 27, 2026 for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, with pre-purchase already live across digital stores. As the ninth mainline Resident Evil, it returns to a devastated Raccoon City and alternates between FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft’s slow-burn survival horror segments and Leon S. Kennedy’s more action-driven missions. On PC, Capcom is pitching it as a flagship RE Engine release, with support for modern features like path-traced lighting and DLSS 4 to push visuals further than Village.
On the DRM side there’s no ambiguity this time. The Steam store page already carries the familiar “Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo Anti-tamper” line, and tracking sites list a machine-activation limit tied to that protection. Capcom’s own communication around PC requirements has repeated that Requiem ships with Denuvo on day one, which keeps it in line with most of the publisher’s big releases over the last few years rather than being an exception.
For PC players, that immediately raises the usual questions about overhead and long-term support. Requiem’s current specs list Windows 11 as the target OS, and community reports talk about an additional anti-cheat layer on top of the anti-tamper DRM, something that always makes PC performance and compatibility a hot topic. Capcom has tried to calm fears by saying the PC version has been tuned with performance in mind after previous controversies, but until people can test the release build on mid-range rigs and handhelds, there’s understandable skepticism from players who prefer their horror games without extra software in the background.
If you’re planning to grab the PC version anyway, the good news is that you don’t have to pay full Steam price. Retailers like Instant Gaming are already offering standard and Deluxe Edition keys below MSRP, which is an easy way to secure a Steam copy and any pre-order bonuses while spending less — even if you’re still hoping Capcom eventually relaxes the DRM situation post-launch, as it has done with a few earlier Resident Evil entries.
