Review

Nocturne’s pull is its stark loop and mood. Turn‑based Press Turn combat rewards advantage, hit weaknesses to earn extra moves, guard to hold momentum when a boss flips the script. Demons are your build, so recruiting and fusing never stop, with passives and inherited skills turning a brittle party into a surgical one. The remaster modernizes the presentation, cleaner models, higher resolution, dual‑language voices, and quality‑of‑life toggles like suspend saves. The soundtrack still owns rooms, from bassy battle churn to eerie hub themes.

Time shows on the bones. Dungeons love devilish tile tricks, and navigation can feel spartan compared to newer JRPGs. Some cutscenes keep their old cadence, which can drag on replays. Difficulty options help, and the DLC lets you pick Dante or Raidou to taste. If you buy into the tone, few RPGs commit this hard to atmosphere and consequence.
