Review

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla hits a steady rhythm once the settlement loop clicks. Raids fuel upgrades, upgrades unlock new tools, and story arcs send you across shires that feel distinct enough to remember. Combat leans heavy. Axes bite, shields matter, and abilities give short bursts of crowd control without turning the screen into fireworks. The stealth side still works, more about timing and routes than strict fail states. It is a playable road trip, not a corridor.
The best pieces are small. A world event that undercuts a grim quest. A discovery that rewrites where you should build next. Exploration pays because gear and skills shift how you approach the next fort. Presentation sells the time and place. Frosty mornings in Norway, mud and moss in England, a score that hums under quiet walks then spikes when a fight starts.
It runs long. Pacing can sag if you chase every icon, and some arcs echo each other. Early PC updates wrestled with shader stutter and bugs, later patches helped but did not erase every hitch. The RPG layer is lighter than Odyssey, yet menus still stack deep. Even with the bloat, the core loop holds. Pick a target, hit it clean, head home to grow the settlement.
Verdict: broad, moody Viking adventure with satisfying raids, best enjoyed in chunks.
