Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is set to release on October 30, 2025 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. A physical edition follows on December 12, 2025. Developed by Digital Eclipse and published by Atari, the collection brings back the original Mortal Kombat trilogy and more, spanning arcade, console, and handheld versions. It also restores rare content like the WaveNet edition of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Alongside the games, players will find rollback netcode for online play, training tools, display filters, and extras such as interviews, art, and franchise history features.

Review

As the game has yet to release, impressions are based on previews and confirmed features. Legacy Kollection looks like more than a simple re-release. Digital Eclipse has a strong track record of faithful emulation and historical preservation, which gives confidence in the quality of this project. Having multiple arcade and console versions side by side is a rare treat, and including the elusive WaveNet UMK3 feels like a major win for preservation.

Presentation will likely shine with optional CRT-style filters and clean scaling for modern displays. The addition of training tools and online rollback netcode could make these older titles feel competitive again in a modern setting. Extras such as art, interviews, and lore elevate the compilation into something closer to an interactive museum than a bundle.

That said, there are risks. Emulation bugs or poor menu design could weaken the package. Competitive players will be quick to judge the quality of rollback netcode. And while fans of the classics will be thrilled, some players may find limited appeal if they expect modern graphics or new story content.

Provisional verdict: if executed with care, this could become the definitive way to experience Mortal Kombat’s early history.
