CONTROL Resonant
CONTROL Resonant releases on September 24, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with macOS following later in 2026. Developed and published by Remedy Entertainment, this action RPG shifts the series from Jesse Faden to her brother Dylan, who emerges from years of Federal Bureau of Control confinement during a paranatural catastrophe spreading across Manhattan. Players explore open-ended city zones, search for Jesse, confront the Hiss, Mold, and new cosmic threats, develop Dylan’s supernatural abilities, and wield the Aberrant, a shapeshifting melee weapon that changes between heavy hammers, fast dual blades, and other combat forms.

Review

CONTROL Resonant makes a significant mechanical shift by replacing the original game’s gun-heavy structure with close-range action RPG combat. Dylan’s Aberrant can transform between several weapon forms during a fight, allowing heavy hammer strikes to flow into faster dual-blade combinations without opening a conventional weapon menu.
Supernatural abilities remain central. Dylan can manipulate the environment, use elemental powers, move through distorted spaces, and shape his progression around different combat preferences. A deeper advancement system supports build experimentation, while boss encounters unlock further options and force players to adapt the Aberrant’s forms to new threats.
Manhattan provides a much broader setting than the Oldest House. The city is divided into expansive zones altered by the Hiss, Mold, and other paranatural forces. Optional missions, returning characters, hidden Bureau activity, and shifting architecture give exploration a purpose beyond reaching the next main objective.
The presentation retains Remedy’s strongest qualities. Brutalist structures, damaged streets, impossible spaces, red contamination, and physical destruction make the world feel unstable even when no enemy is present. Dylan’s search for Jesse also keeps the larger disaster tied to a personal conflict.
The move toward melee combat is the obvious risk. The original’s telekinetic gunplay had a distinctive flow, and Resonant must ensure its larger weapon move lists remain readable during crowded encounters. Build systems could also become cluttered if equipment statistics overshadow the physical combat.
Verdict: An ambitious supernatural action RPG that expands Control beyond the Oldest House while giving Dylan a faster, more aggressive, and highly customizable combat identity.
