Made by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games, it throws you into the wizarding world of the 1800s. You arrive at Hogwarts not as Harry Potter, but as your own student, wandering the castle’s shifting halls, picking up spells, and stumbling onto secrets tied to old magic.

Review

Hogwarts Legacy gives fans the simple dream: life as a student at Hogwarts. The castle dominates, with staircases that shift, portraits that whisper, and corridors hiding collectibles or puzzles. Exploration works because every corner holds a small surprise. Outside, the map broadens into woods, hamlets, and caves, offering a change of pace when the stone walls close in.

Combat is more hands-on than expected. Spells fire off in quick succession, chaining into combos while dodges and counters keep momentum. It feels sharp in motion, though chaos sets in when enemies crowd the screen. The spell wheel limits flexibility, forcing swaps mid-battle that can trip you up. Still, landing a string of curses or blasting back a troll has weight and flash.

The RPG framework is lighter. Dialogue choices exist but rarely shift outcomes in dramatic ways. Many side quests repeat fetch or fight patterns, which dulls the impact. On PC, launch performance suffered from frame drops and stuttering. Patches eased issues, yet consoles handle the game more consistently, showing off detailed halls and landscapes.

The plot avoids Potter canon, centering instead on ancient magic. That freedom helps tell a new story but may leave some wishing for closer ties. Even so, the act of roaming Hogwarts, hearing the chatter of paintings, and sneaking into forbidden wings sells the fantasy.

Verdict: Hogwarts Legacy has rough edges, but walking the halls of Hogwarts makes it worth it.
