Will Yakuza 0 Director's Cut use Denuvo on PC?

Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut is set to launch on December 8, 2025 for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, after first arriving earlier this year as a Nintendo Switch 2 title. This new edition keeps the same 1988 Kamurocho and Sotenbori setting but adds an English dub, more supported languages, a new Red Light Raid online co‑op mode and extra story cutscenes on top of the original campaign. It also comes as Sega prepares to delist the old PC release from digital stores, pushing new buyers directly toward the Director’s Cut instead of the 2018 port.

On the DRM side, signs strongly point to Denuvo being back for the PC version. External trackers and Denuvo‑focused curators list Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut as using “Denuvo Anti‑Tamper” on its Steam build, matching Sega’s recent pattern with other Like a Dragon titles. Community threads also picked up on a brief “Includes 3rd‑party DRM: TBD” note during the marketing cycle, which many interpreted as a placeholder for Denuvo before the store page was fully updated. In other words, unless Sega quietly changes course, you should expect the Windows release to launch with Denuvo on day one.

That creates a strange situation compared to the original PC port. Back in 2018, Yakuza 0 shipped on Steam with Denuvo, only for Sega to patch the DRM out in early 2019 after a long beta branch and plenty of community discussion about performance and long‑term support. The end result was a fully DRM‑free build on Steam and GOG that many players still point to as the “definitive” way to play. With Director’s Cut, the base version is being delisted, the upgrade path is locked behind a new fee, and Denuvo appears to be returning for the refreshed SKU, which is why so many preservation‑minded fans are frustrated with how this transition is being handled.

For PC players who care about DRM, the practical options are limited. If you already own the original, grabbing the cheaper upgrade and sticking with your DRM‑free install might be the least painful compromise while you wait to see if Sega removes Denuvo from the Director’s Cut in a future patch. Newcomers who are less sensitive to DRM may still find the overall package tempting, especially at a discount from shops like Instant Gaming, but it’s worth going in knowing that this is not the same “clean” PC release that helped turn Yakuza 0 into a cult classic on the platform.
