Subliminal
Subliminal releases March 2026 on PC. Developed by Accidental Studios and published by Gone Shootin and Infini Fun, it’s psychological horror built around the slow collapse of familiar spaces into something wrong. You explore liminal rooms that look almost comforting until perspective shifts, doors lead somewhere they shouldn’t, and the game starts messing with what you think you saw or heard. It’s less about jump scares and more about the creeping sense that your own perception is the thing being hunted.

Review

The pitch is elegant: move light, move the world. Puzzles revolve around lifting fixtures, casting beams, and finding angles that unlock doors or reshape a hallway into something new. Because the rules are readable, victories feel earned, more eureka than trial‑and‑error, and the spaces are specific enough to sell the unease without cheap jumps. Audio does heavy lifting, hums and distant vents sit under the mix, and when the thing that is not human finally appears, it lands because the game has been patient.
The demo suggests a clean loop, explore, adjust the lighting, test a theory, then survive a chase when you overthink it. If the full game sustains that cadence, it can avoid the mid‑game sag that sinks many single‑mechanic puzzlers. Performance targets are sensible for Unreal Engine 5, though reflections and volumetrics could bite mid‑range GPUs if settings are left maxed. The risk is repetition, so new spaces and rules will need to arrive on a reliable drip. If they do, this could be a tight, memorable walk through the places your brain tries not to remember.
Verdict
A sharp lighting‑and‑perspective horror that earns its chills through rules, not jump scares.
