Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War!
Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! releases March 16, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Developed by Auroch Digital and published by Dotemu, it’s a first-person retro shooter built around a solo campaign and an original story that leans into the Federation’s propaganda tone while throwing you into bug-infested battlefields. The hook is simple: fast, chunky FPS combat, a big arsenal, and a “training simulation” framing that gives it permission to be both sincere and a little ridiculous.

Review

Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! is trying to hit the sweet spot where a boomer shooter feels old-school without feeling stiff. The pitch is speed and impact. You’re meant to cut through swarms, switch tools often, and keep moving because standing still is basically volunteering.
If the campaign is built well, the Starship Troopers setting does a lot of free work. Bugs are a natural excuse for messy firefights, collapsing lines, and sudden panic. The tone matters too. The best Starship Troopers games remember the franchise is both a war story and a parody of a war story. Ultimate Bug War! seems to lean into that, especially with its FMV flavor and propaganda framing.
Mechanically, the question is rhythm. A retro shooter lives on encounter design: how quickly you can read a space, what enemies force you to do differently, and whether the game keeps introducing new threats before your brain starts autopiloting. The arsenal count sounds generous, but quantity only matters if each tool has a clear job.
Two caveats. First, swarm shooters can turn into visual mush if readability isn’t controlled. Second, a story-heavy framing can slow momentum if it interrupts the best combat stretches too often. Still, the combination of a strong IP, a focused solo campaign, and a classic FPS foundation is a good place to start.
Verdict: A promising Starship Troopers FPS that could land as a genuinely fun campaign shooter, provided its swarms stay readable and its encounters keep evolving.
