Review

Resident Evil 4: Remake manages to keep the spirit of the original while giving it new teeth. Gunplay still leans on the over-the-shoulder view, but every bullet lands harder. Enemies react with more weight, and the new knife parry shifts how you survive sudden swarms.

The village and surrounding areas drip atmosphere. Rain slicks the stone, torchlight flickers across walls, and tight interiors crank up tension. Exploration feels more rewarding, with puzzles, side routes, and loot tucked away. A few areas stretch further than before, adding ambushes that twist what fans remember.

Combat feels intense but imperfect. Ganados rush in packs, pushing you to choose between standing your ground, kicking through bodies, or retreating to breathe. The camera sometimes struggles in cramped spaces, and if you hoard ammo the pace can drag. Still, when fights explode, they feel messy and desperate in the best way.

Performance is reliable on strong hardware, while older PCs dip during crowded fights. Sound design plays a big part: chants echo outside a cabin, floorboards creak, and the whine of a chainsaw makes every encounter heavier.

Verdict: brutal and sharp, with rough edges, but a remake that earns its place beside the original.
