Necesse hit 1.0 on December 12, 2024 for PC (Steam) after a long early‑access run. Solo dev Mads Skovgaard, under the Necesse label, folds Terraria‑style digging into a top‑down colony loop. You raid islands, craft everything from potions to furniture, and recruit settlers who turn a rough camp into a small, loud town. Combat taps in and out as you chase new biomes and bosses.

Review

Necesse finds pace in short hops. A quick ore run turns into a detour, then a boss cue shows and you are scrambling for better flasks. The top‑down read makes fights clean, and the crafting menus avoid the usual wall of noise. Settlers pull you back to base often, asking for rooms and workbenches, which keeps progression tied to a place instead of a checklist.
Co‑op helps the midgame grind. One player scouts, another builds, a third farms, and suddenly the hub feels alive. The map stays generous about resources, so failed expeditions rarely stall a night. Biome swaps keep kits changing, with small stat bumps that matter more than they look.
Caveats: early hours can be slow until your first decent weapon, and the UI still hides a few options one layer too deep. Performance is light on most rigs, though heavy mob clusters can drop frames if you insist on chaos. Even then, the loop holds. Clear a pocket, bring loot home, and watch the town grow a little stranger.
Verdict: compact, flexible sandbox that rewards tinkering.
