Review

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls builds its matches around four-character teams without requiring players to learn four completely disconnected fighters. Team members share the flow of battle through assists, substitutions, and coordinated attacks, allowing even straightforward combos to develop into visually elaborate sequences.
Team composition provides the main strategic layer. A character with strong close-range pressure may benefit from an assist that controls distant space, while defensive or movement-focused partners can cover unsafe approaches. Experimenting with different combinations should reveal new routes rather than limiting every character to one official team.
Arc System Works also provides several control options. Traditional inputs remain available for experienced fighting-game players, while quick commands and easy chain combos make basic attacks more approachable. Deeper play still depends on movement, assist timing, resource use, defensive reads, and knowing when to replace the active fighter.
The anime-inspired presentation suits Marvel’s exaggerated powers. Heavy impact frames, sharp silhouettes, expressive poses, and readable special effects give each hero a distinct presence. Interactive stage transitions add spectacle without turning every exchange into a long cinematic interruption.
Episode Mode offers single-player stories focused on team relationships, while local competition, online matches, cross-play, and 64-player lobbies cover the competitive side.
Four-character battles may become visually crowded when several assists overlap. The Year 1 Pass also means part of the expanding roster is locked behind additional purchases.
Verdict: A polished and accessible tag fighter with flexible team building, strong visual direction, and enough mechanical depth to support serious competition.
