Marathon
Marathon launches on March 5, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It is developed and published by Bungie. Set on Tau Ceti IV, a derelict colony with hostile security forces and rival Runners, it is an extraction shooter built around tense scavenging and fast PvP fights. The hook is the risk loop: you drop in solo or with a squad, hunt valuables, and try to exfil before the lobby or the environment closes in. Gear and upgrades come from what you survive with, so every push into a new zone feels like a decision you can regret.

Review

Marathon plays like Bungie taking its tight shooter DNA and forcing it into a harsher economy. The gunplay is responsive, time to kill is low, and the game expects you to commit. You are not just winning fights, you are buying yourself time to loot, reposition, and extract. That framing makes even small skirmishes feel meaningful because they decide your route and your inventory, not just the scoreboard.
The best runs come from the tension between exploration and aggression. Tau Ceti IV reads as a hostile place with layered routes, choke points, and angles that reward smart movement. Going solo has a different flavor than running duos or trios, and the ROOK option changes the risk math by letting you enter with less to lose. The seasonal power climb and faction contracts give the grind structure without turning every match into a checklist.
Two caveats are worth keeping in mind. First, extraction shooters live on matchmaking quality and netcode, and early weeks can be rough if servers or balance wobble. Second, the loop is inherently stressful. If you hate losing gear because of one bad read, this genre will test your patience.
Verdict: A sharp, high-stakes extraction shooter that rewards preparation, clean aim, and the discipline to leave when you are ahead.
