Mafia: The Old Country delivers a tight, story-driven experience that vividly evokes turn-of-the-century Mafia origins. Enzo’s journey from indentured miner to mob insider unfolds through cinematic presentation, strong voice acting, and visual authenticity. The recreated setting of San Celeste and its surroundings feel lived-in, with immersive lighting and finely detailed environments giving the world weight.

Yet the experience leans heavily on linear design. Exploration is limited, and free-roam is buried behind menu screens, which frustrates when the world begs to be explored. Gameplay is solid but uneven—gunfights work, but stealth segments often feel simplistic and mandatory knife duels crop up too frequently. Some mission pacing relies too much on nostalgia, echoing earlier games without evolving the formula.

Still, the game’s visual finesse and focused storytelling carry it. If you value narrative momentum and cinematic atmosphere over open-world breadth, The Old Country hits its mark.
