Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake
Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake is scheduled for PC, with its release date still to be announced. Developed and published by Ubisoft, this full remake rebuilds the classic turn-based strategy game together with The Restoration of Erathia, Armageddon’s Blade, and The Shadow of Death content in full 3D and 4K. Players explore adventure maps with individual heroes, capture mines and resources, develop towns, recruit fantasy armies, collect artifacts, and fight tactical battles across hex-based battlefields. Nine factions return with distinct creatures and strategies, while the original campaigns are unified with a new prologue, epilogue, cinematics, online and local multiplayer for up to eight players, and map and campaign creation tools.

Review

Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake has a difficult job because the original remains remarkably playable decades after release. Ubisoft is therefore keeping the core structure recognizable rather than replacing it with a modernized strategy system. Heroes still travel across adventure maps collecting resources, visiting structures, recruiting creatures, and fighting for control of towns before battles move to a separate tactical grid.
The nine factions are central to that longevity. Different creature rosters, town buildings, magic options, and hero specialties create substantially different openings, while artifacts and map layouts can force players to adjust plans from one scenario to another. Army composition matters just as much in combat, where initiative, positioning, spell use, ranged pressure, and preserving valuable units can determine an entire campaign.
The remake’s largest additions are around presentation and accessibility. Full 3D environments, refined animations, modern audio, and 4K support rebuild the visual layer without changing the underlying identity. The campaigns are also being reorganized into one continuous story with additional scenes.
Multiplayer remains important, supporting up to eight players online or locally. Community maps and built-in editing tools should further extend replayability beyond the official campaigns.
The main concern is whether visual modernization changes the exceptional clarity of the original sprites and interface. Long-time players will also judge even small balance changes closely.
Verdict: A cautious but ambitious reconstruction of one of turn-based strategy’s strongest games, preserving its faction depth, exploration, and tactical battles while rebuilding almost everything around them.
