Dead by Daylight
Dead by Daylight released on June 14, 2016 for PC (Steam), later arriving on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and then PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Developed and published by Behaviour Interactive Inc. A competitive 1v4 multiplayer slasher where one Killer hunts four Survivors. The match is a tug of nerves: Survivors fix generators, hide, and bail each other out, while the Killer tracks scratches, cuts loops, and turns hooks into pressure. Perks mix into builds, licensed crossovers spice up the roster, and maps learn your habits if you stop paying attention.

Review

Dead by Daylight works because information is the real weapon. As Survivor you count heartbeats, read terror radius fades, and break line of sight long enough to pop a gen. A clean unhook into a safe rotate feels better than any chase point tally. As Killer you learn pallets and windows, bait greed, and guard the right three gens instead of the whole map. Builds matter, but the best perks only amplify smart decisions.
Flow swings in seconds. A missed skill check snowballs into a campy endgame, then the next match flips when a body block saves a teammate at one hook state. Licensed chapters add fun wrinkles without breaking the grammar of chases. Movement is readable, audio cues carry, and the third‑person view for Survivors keeps mind games active. On PC the feel is consistent once shaders settle, and the footprint stays light on SSDs.
There are caveats. Balance shifts with patches, matchmaking quality can swing, and cheater waves flare between ban sweeps. Solo queue lacks comms, so some nights feel rough unless you flex your route choices. Even with the bumps, the push and pull is strong. You learn tiles, track cooldowns, and the last gate standoff still spikes the heart.
Verdict: tense asymmetric multiplayer where map sense and timing beat panic.
