Dead as Disco
Dead as Disco enters Early Access on May 5, 2026 on PC. Developed and published by Brain Jar Games, it casts you as Charlie Disco, a fallen icon with one night to take the spotlight back from the Idols, your ex-bandmates turned larger-than-life legends. The hook is combat synced to music: attacks, dodges, and takedowns hit harder when you play on-beat, and the game leans into style with fashion unlocks, a customizable dive bar hub, and a soundtrack setup that ranges from streamer-safe originals to licensed tracks.

Review

Dead as Disco is built around a simple idea that’s easy to love when it’s tuned right: rhythm isn’t a minigame, it’s your combat timing. The best moments come when the beat stops being background noise and starts feeling like a weapon. You’re not just mashing through a brawl, you’re riding a tempo, committing to moves because you can feel where the next hit should land.
The story setup is pulpy in a good way. One night, one chance, a reunion that turns into revenge. It’s an excuse to throw you into stylish fights and keep the pace moving. Where it stands out is in its customization loop. Unlocking outfits and memorabilia fits the “performer” angle, and turning the dive bar into a personal hub gives the game a nice in-between space where you can breathe before going back into the noise.
The big question is variety. A rhythm combat game needs enough enemy behaviors and encounter shapes so you’re not repeating the same pattern with different skins. It also needs clarity. When music and action are both demanding attention, the game has to be readable or you’ll miss beats for reasons that feel unfair.
Early Access is the other asterisk. Content volume, difficulty tuning, and song support will be the difference between a great hook and a great game.
Verdict: A stylish beat-synced brawler with a strong core idea, with Early Access success hinging on encounter variety and clean readability under pressure.
