1348 Ex Voto launches on March 12, 2026 for PC and PlayStation 5. It is developed by Sedleo and published by Dear Villagers. You follow Aeta, a young knight-errant, cutting across plague-era Italy to find and save Bianca. The pitch is cinematic third-person action with grounded swordplay, a harsh historical backdrop, and the kind of journey that turns villages, roads, and castles into threats as much as scenery.

Review

1348 Ex Voto is chasing a particular tone: late medieval Italy as a place where faith, fear, and opportunism all compete in the same muddy streets. The story setup is simple, a rescue mission, but it is the context that makes it bite. Aeta is not wandering through a theme park version of history. The world is pitched as hostile and unstable, with bandits, mercenaries, and zealotry filling the gaps where order used to be.
On the controller, the game lives or dies on melee feel. Ex Voto’s promise is “real” sword combat energy, with strikes that have weight and consequences. When it works, you will want to read opponents, commit to timing, and take space before swinging. The best action-adventure combat is not about endless combos, it is about decision-making under pressure, and the setting suits that kind of tension.
Exploration looks like more than connecting cutscenes. You are moving through villages, ruins, and rural stretches that can hide side paths, collectibles, and environmental problem-solving. If the game lands its atmosphere, the quieter moments should matter.
Caveats are familiar but important. Cinematic pacing can slip into long stretches of walking and talking if the gameplay loops are not woven tightly. Also, because the combat aims for realism, responsiveness and enemy readability have to be sharp, or fights will feel clumsy instead of brutal.
Verdict: A grim, grounded medieval action-adventure that could shine if its swordplay stays crisp and its pacing stays lean.
