Review

Casualties: Unknown approaches survival from the opposite direction of a typical power fantasy. The player is deliberately fragile, and even an apparently minor mistake can develop into a chain of problems that ends a run.
Its simulated damage systems are responsible for much of that tension. Injuries affect individual limbs, blood loss must be stabilized, infections can become dangerous, and declining mental condition can make an already difficult expedition worse. Healing therefore requires more thought than simply consuming a generic health item.
Crafting gives players a way to fight back against those systems. Resources found in the caves can become tools, medical supplies, and equipment that improve the chances of reaching another layer. Character traits such as Intelligence, Strength, and Resilience create additional differences between runs, while three playable characters offer distinct approaches to survival.
The 11-layer structure provides a clear long-term objective. Each region introduces different environmental problems and threats, and the full release adds the deeper layers, multiple endings, additional characters, balance changes, and quality-of-life improvements beyond the demo.
Permadeath keeps exploration stressful because useful loot is often located exactly where caution suggests turning back. Adjustable loot and danger settings provide some flexibility without removing the core survival pressure.
The main drawback is intentional harshness. Players who dislike losing progress after a single bad decision may find the simulation more exhausting than rewarding.
Verdict: A brutally detailed survival simulator where wounds, blood loss, crafting, exploration, and permanent death combine to make every deeper cave layer feel genuinely dangerous.
