Review

The Relic: First Guardian approaches action RPG combat with an unusual division of resources. Attacks do not consume stamina, leaving the meter reserved for defensive movement and dodging. Skills instead operate through cooldowns, allowing players to maintain offensive pressure while still making careful decisions about survival.
That structure should produce a faster combat flow than systems where every swing competes with evasion for the same resource. Five weapon categories and 12 dedicated skill trees support different styles, while equippable Relics introduce more than 70 passive effects that can alter skill behavior, pacing, and weapon performance. The result is a flexible progression system without fixed character classes.
Equipment also avoids conventional randomized loot. Every weapon and armor piece exists as a unique artifact with its own history, making discovery more meaningful than collecting repeated items with slightly different statistics. This supports the melancholic world design, where ruined landscapes and abandoned memories are closely tied to character growth.
Bosses are a major part of the experience, with the developers promising up to 80 encounters. Many are former humans transformed by starvation, curses, or catastrophe, giving their battles a tragic context rather than presenting them as anonymous obstacles.
The scale is ambitious, and maintaining distinct mechanics across such a large boss roster will be difficult. With Steam still listing no complete PC specifications, performance expectations also remain unclear close to launch.
Verdict: An ambitious action RPG with fluid combat, meaningful equipment, and flexible builds, though its large boss count will need enough variety to justify the scale.
