DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations
DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations releases July 7, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks, it is the paid story expansion for DOOM: The Dark Ages, sending the Slayer into a colder, stranger chapter built around new levels, new demons, and the Chain Spear as the headline weapon. The DLC keeps the base game’s medieval brutality but pushes the lore harder, with a campaign designed to dig deeper into the Slayer’s war and feed new toys back into Ripatorium once the story is cleared.

Review

Revelations has the right kind of expansion pitch: not just more arenas, but a sharper excuse to return to a combat system that thrives on pressure. The Dark Ages already changed DOOM by making the Slayer feel heavier, more planted, and more brutal at close range. The Chain Spear fits that identity well because it sounds like a tool for closing distance and forcing decisions, not just another damage number in the weapon wheel.
The key is whether the DLC uses its new spaces to test that kit. DOOM works best when every arena has an argument. One corner punishes hesitation. One enemy demands a specific answer. One mistake turns a clean flow into a scramble. If Revelations adds new demons and levels that make the player rethink old habits, it will feel like a real chapter rather than a map pack.
The lore-heavy angle is also a good fit, as long as it does not get in the way. DOOM can be mythic without slowing down, and the best storytelling in this series usually happens between fights: architecture, bodies, shrines, machines, and the feeling that the Slayer has been part of this war longer than anyone can measure.
The caveat is value. A paid DLC needs pacing, encounter variety, and a satisfying payoff. If it leans too much on familiar demon pressure with one new weapon doing all the work, it will feel thin.
Verdict: A strong-looking DOOM expansion with a promising new weapon and lore focus, with its impact depending on arena design and how boldly it tests returning players.
